Mark and I just wanted to share with you the fantastic weekend we had at Lake Vassiviere. The lake is easily accessible, just 1.5 hours away from La Maison Ancienne B&B. We went to celebrate my birthday and our wedding annivesary of 22 glorious years! We went with our friends Anne & Jeff and decided that we would camp.
We arrived at “Les 2 Isles” campsite at Auphelle at about 3pm. As there was no-one at the reception went to have a cup of tea. Came back, booked in and went to put the tent up. Of course, then the heavens opened and we got very wet. Eventually got the tent up and changed into dry clothes.
Saturday morning woke up to cool, but sunny weather. We had a lovely breakfast of Bucks Fizz and croissants. For lunch, I had booked the four of us on to the Restaurant boat, which left at 12.30pm and took 3 hours around the lake. The food, drink and entertainment was brilliant.
We had timed our weekend just right, as it was EDF’s 60 Anniversary of producing electricity via the dam and therefore there was lots going on. We caught a small ferry which took us across to the small island, where we walked through beautiful gardens etc. Definitely well worth a visit!
When we eventually got back to the tent there was another deluge, but this time we had hail stones the size of grapes, thunder and lightening!
In the late evening we were entertained by fireworks, which were absolutely fantastic, along with the lightening in the distance! We took our deckchairs and our beers to the beach of the lake where we had a brilliant view point. Fireworks across water, wonderful!
Next day the boys cooked a lovely breakfast before we took down the tent and made our way home.
All in all, I think we had a brilliant time!!
